At last Stella is equipped to talk to you!

But before you do anything else, click here to order your Licensed version of Stella 2000

Then you will need to download the 3 Microsoft Agent components that will make this miracle happen...

As a licensed distributor, Coeli Software can offer you its own Speech Pack Download. Just click on the following  link to begin the file transfer to your PC...

Installation Instructions

Simply unzip the contents of the SpeechPak.zip archive into a new folder on your hard disk.

Next, navigate to the folder you chose using Windows Explorer.

When you have found the three unzipped files

MSagent.exe
tv_enua.exe
Genie.exe

Double-click on each in the order given above to start the installation of each component.

That's all there is to it.

Please note that Microsoft Agent will become an integral part of Windows once you have carried out the installation, and you will not be able to uninstall the MS Agent core. Not that you'll ever want to!

It should be noted that Microsoft Agent is already an integral part of Windows XP and Windows 2000. But in order to obtain the correct pronunciation for astronomical terms, you will need to re-install as instructed from the above files, using the specified folders.

Caveat

If you have a non-English language version of Windows XP, our Speech Enhancement for Stella 2000 will  NOT output recognisable English.

This is beyond our control
, because Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has chosen to bundle a version of their speech technology in your native language.

We have tried installing the above English language files over the pre-loaded Microsoft layer in a Spanish version of Windows XP, but without success.

It would appear to be impossible to uninstall the preloaded Microsoft Agent and replace it with the English version.

If you have found a way round this, please let us know, so that we can post the fix here for our other non-English users.

For Windows 95, 98, ME, and possibly NT, there should be no problem.

Good luck in your own attempts!

Instructions for Use

To have the Genie appear automatically whenever Stella starts, open the Speech tab on the Setup page (File>>Setup), and check the box labelled "Load Genie at Startup". Then click [apply] followed by [OK] to save your changes. It's as simple as that!

With the Report window active, whenever you click on a star in Stella's sky display, Genie will tell you all about it. And he'll tell you even more if you right-click in the Report window and select "Read Report"...

The Genie can also read from Stella's Encyclopedia Astronomica: just open the desired section from the Reference menu, select the text you want recited with the mouse and then choose "Read Selection" from the context menu; or else simply choose "Read All" if you want to sit back and relax!

However, please note that some text will be just too extensive for the latter operation, notably the 400,000-word Aspects of Astronomy and certain sections of Astrogloss.
